hideoff

’i strip my coat of excess,
watch it convulse, contract
in this hostile environment
without my shielding.
take a piece, radiate with burden,
grace the curse
take, take, take it.
and be more.‘

about

’hideoff‘ visualises my inner picture of a layer of fat that i can step out of, take off or put on if needed, like a coat. and shows the want to share this ’coat‘ with others, piece by piece.
there is a fragile brutality in the making process that reflects this image.

making

for ’hideoff‘, silicone is spread across and pushed through a mesh mat, shaping the piece by pulling a thread, previously weaved through the mat, and letting it cure in this position. the thread is taken out, letting the objects fold open. the piercing is fitted for the wearer individually.
